Title I Program
The main goal of the Title I program is to improve all areas of your child’s education.
Laurel County is a Title I district-wide program. Title I provides money for such things as: instructional assistants, instructional materials, parent involvement, training for school staff (professional development), etc. in your child’s school. For more information about the Title I program, visit the U.S. Department of Education’s web site: Title I - Improving the Academic Achievement...
HOW DOES A SCHOOL DISTRICT GET TITLE I FUNDS?
Title I is a Federal program where each school district’s funding is based upon the documented number of students who qualify for the free or reduced lunch program. The number of students qualifying for the free or reduced lunch program comes from the lunch forms that parents are asked to fill out each school year. These forms are completed each year, therefore funding amounts will change each year based upon the results turned in to the Federal government.
Parents are asked to fill out these lunch forms and return them to the schools, even if they do not want to be a part of the free or reduced lunch program, because that information is so important in determining how much money your child’s school district is going to receive. The fewer lunch forms a school district receives from parents, the fewer parents who qualify for free or reduced lunch, equals a lower amount of money a school district receives from the Federal government.
We ask that each year you take a few minutes to complete the lunch form that you receive and return it to your child’s school. This one form may make the difference in whether or not there is an extra adult coming into your child’s classroom each day to work with the students; or it may make the difference in whether or not computers in your child’s school are kept up to date, just to name a couple of the many things Title I and other Federal funds based upon the free or reduced lunch program numbers provide.
The free or reduced lunch program form can be found near the bottom of this page on the LCSS web site: Laurel County Public Schools-menus and forms . There are 3 sections available- information about the lunch program, directions on completing the application , and the application form for the free or reduced lunch program.
