Who gets Grandma's Yellow Pie Plate?

Everybody has old family photos, doll collections, dishes, guns, knife collections, old quilts, and other family heirlooms (non titled personal property) but have you ever thought about what happens to your personal belongings when you die? Who decides who gets what? The transfer of non titiled property often creates many challenges among family members. This class will show you how to deal with some of the issues that may arise.

Tired of not being able to create a letter on your computer?  Now you can!  Learn the basics of MS Word 2003 and create your own letters and signs.  Use menus, toolbars, commands, and the Ribbon.  Use cut copy and paste; save and organize files; open, print and close files.  Use different fonts and sizes; insert bullets and numbered lists; use print preview and print a document.   No typing skills are required however; the individual should have some experience in using a computer mouse.

Woven Footstool

Crazy Eight Quilted Jacket

Want to do something productive with old fabric lying around instead of throwing it out?  Make your very own “unique” quilted jacket and have an interesting story to tell about it.

Supplies needed:  At least 56- 8 ½” squares of 100% cotton fabric.  8-13 different prints are recommended.  BRING YOUR EXTRA FABRIC WITH YOU – LARGER JACKETS NEED MORE FABRIC. 

Sweatshirt:  1 size larger than the size you would normally wear.  Seam rip all seams to take sweatshirt apart – EXCEPT the collar edging.  Thread to match.  A sewing machine that will allow feed dogs to be lowered for free motion quilting.  Rotary cutter, mat, & acrylic ruler. 

**It is important to have squares cut and the sweatshirt dissembled – otherwise you will spend the entire class time cutting and seam ripping.

A Quilt Gathering – Quilt Show

No doubt you either know a quilter or have a favorite quilt passed down from your mother, grandmother, aunt or friend that is special to you or your family! Come join us for this exciting quilt show that will celebrate the art of quilting.  The show will feature

  • “Civil War Quilts,” a lecture by Karen Witt of Reproduction Quilts, an international specialty company that makes patterns and quilt kits with historical reproduction fabrics.
  • “Quilt Talks” – conversations with area quilt makers about different aspects of home art textiles, sewing machines, quilts and quilt making
  • A Project Linus  booth to promote the national charity which provides quilts and blankets to needy children in hospitals traumas such as neglect or sexual abuse.  Mountain Laurel Quilters regularly donate quilts to Project Linus  which are then distributed right here in Laurel County.
  • A judged quilt show offering cash prizes for Best of Show, and Best Hand Quilting and Best Machine Quilting in large and small quilt categories
  • A vendor area where guests and quilters alike can shop for locally made craft items, antiques and other items of interest to quilters and non-quilters alike.

RECREATION line

Golf for Beginners
This course will work on the basic grip, posture and stance, as well as getting a player ready for the golf course.  We will put an emphasis on a fun, low-key teaching environment and each student will receive as much "one on one" attention as possible.  We will approach and teach the short game and work on chipping and putting in detail.  This should be a great opportunity to learn and have fun at the same time.  This class limited to 8 people.

Golf (Advanced)

This advanced golf class will be a continuation of the beginner class using the basics of golf learned.  We will progress to more advanced swing concepts and the short game principles.  In addition, this class will spend a great deal of time on the golf course learning "Course and Game Management" skills.  By the end of this course, students should be ready to play golf on any type of course and enjoy the game with confidence in his/her golfing abilities.  Class limited to 8 people.

Introduction to Aviation

This course is for anyone who has an interest in aviation and/or an interest in learning to fly.  No prior knowledge of aviation is required.  This course will focus on the three primary areas of:  aviating, communicating, and navigating.  Students will get a tour of the London airport including the runways and will have an opportunity to preflight an aircraft.  Time will be split between classroom and field (aircraft/airport).

YOUTH CLUB

The Bennett Center of London is excited to announce a new program for all students in grades 5-10. Students will be able to join the Youth Club. The Youth club is housed in the New Life Center of the Bennett Center in London. Students will receive tutoring and have access to computers for homework, research, etc. They will be able to play games, hear speakers talk about youth issues; hang out in a youth-oriented drug-free environment after school. The program is Monday -Friday from 3 pm to 6:30 pm. Club membership is $100 per month. The Youth Club's schedule will follow the school schedule and will be closed when schools are closed. 4-H Environmental EDventures

Get ready to explore your environment with a day of fun filled activities! Students will participate in seven hands-on EDventures learning new things about the environment, eco-system, food chain, air and water quality and much more. Teachers may choose from either of the 3 days. Sign-up your class or home school students by calling 864-4167. Registration deadline is August 22.  This day camp is offered to grades 4-8.
