My name is Megan Hensley.  I am native to the city of Middlesboro.  I have been in London for three years now.  I taught in Bell County School district for 4 years teaching Preschool.  I took some time off when I had my girls.  Once I returned to teaching I worked for 4 more years in a Severe Disability classroom in which I worked 2 years at Middlesboro Independent as a K-5th MSD teacher and 2 years at Bush Elementary as a K-5th MSD teacher .  Now I have made my way to the Sublimity Elementary family.

I have four teaching degrees.  I obtained my elementary degree through Lincoln Memorial University, I have my Interdisciplinary Early Childhood degree from Morehead State University.  I earned my 1st Masters in Curriculum and Instructions grades K-12 from Lincoln Memorial University and my 2nd Masters in Moderate and Severe Disabilities from Georgetown College.  I have worked with many different educators and had multiple opportunities to grow professionally these are memories and experiences that I could never forget.

I have observed in some of the top schools in the Nation located in Washington, D.C. I have also had the opportunity to meet with a team of educators from Vanderbilt that created many of the tiered systems the school systems currently use to track data on at risk students.  Many of these opportunities came when I served at the Committee Chair over the Education Association at my college as a student.  This allowed me to continue in this area and serve as the President Elect for the State of Tennessee in the Student division of Tennessee Education Association.  I learned so much in that year representing the state in Nashville.

It is my focus to ensure each student I come  in contact with will grow and flourish in learning new skills.  Preschool age is an amazing time for our children.  They learn through experiences and hands on learning.  It is critical to keep them engaged and to make learning fun.  I gauge what I do for the students based on developmentally appropriate practices and on the psychological approach that our school systems were built upon.  I adhere to teaching based on the theory of Gardner's Multiple Intelligence to ensure that I reach each students style of learning to the best of my ability.  I also create my lessons and their progressions on Bloom's Taxonomy and Depth of Knowledge.  I always do my best to try to abide by the students developmental levels to ensure that I do not push them past the Zone of Proximal Development so the students will still enjoy learning but be actively engaged so they may embed knowledge and learn how to succeed on their own.
