Attendance/HCI Expectations

Burchell's HCI Expectations

Contact:  Each student will be responsible for contacting me if there are any questions or concerns. Contact needs to be made via email, Google Classroom or Remind. I will do my best to respond immediately. Communication will be ESSENTIAL to surviving online learning. All of my contact info is on my teacher website.

Google Classroom: Every student needs to be enrolled in the correct Google Classroom, the code will be on your schedule and on the back of this info sheet.

Remind: If possible, it is vital that you register for the Remind that will be set up for your class. It is also acceptable for parents to join the Remind if needed. The code for your class will be on the back of this info sheet.

Textbooks: Students in my Civics and World History classes will have access to an online textbook that I have posted in Google Classroom. Preferably, you will only use the online book but if you need a physical book then you can check one out at any time. My AP Government students will only use a physical textbook. Textbooks must be returned when school resumes in person.

Livestream: Every day, each of my classes will meet for 30 minutes via Google Meet. You will be notified of the time in which your specific class will meet, it will be the same time every day. I fully expect every student to attend each daily Google Meet, if you are not going to be able to attend then you need to inform me ahead of time. When you are on the livestream, your camera needs to be on and your mic should be off.

Assignments: All assignments will be posted on Google Classroom with a due date. Turn your work in ON TIME. I understand that online learning will be an adjustment so if you feel that you need more time then you need to let me know and I will work with you. Once again, COMMUNICATION IS KEY.

Reading/Notes/Videos: I will only have 30 minutes with you a day so you have to be sure that you are reading, reviewing notes and watching videos that I post. If you do not do your part then it will be difficult to understand the material and you will fall behind. I am counting on you to apply yourself. If you do what I ask then you’ll be fine, I will never ask more of you than you can handle.

Class Structure: While we are doing HCI, I will be treating each livestream the same as I would treat a normal class. We will begin each class with an opening assignment and then we will do a combination of notes, lecture and discussion. The class time will be used to learn the content and you will apply what you have learned on the assignments.

Materials: You will need a five subject notebook, a folder and access to Google Classroom and Google Meets. It would be helpful to have access to a printer so you can print notes but that is not required.

Attendance

Attendance will be taken through online class participation during the day.  If for some reason your child is unable to attend the LIVE online class, a recorded video of the lesson will be posted in Google Classroom by the end of the day for you and your child to watch and complete the day’s lesson.

Compulsory attendance laws remain in effect for the 2020-2021 school year.  Non-participation days without a valid excuse (parent/doctor note) are considered unexcused absences.  Students who do not participate for three (3) days without a valid excuse are considered truant.  Students who do not participate for six (6) days without a valid excuse are considered habitually truant.  Please refer to the Student Code of Acceptable Conduct and Discipline for full attendance policies.

HCI Policy

Students are expected to be ONLINE in the virtual classroom daily, following the above class schedule.  Students will participate in class instruction, which will be done through a Google Meet.  The link to the Google Meet will be posted in your child’s Google Classroom.

Attendance will be taken through online class participation during the day.  If for some reason your child is unable to attend the LIVE online instruction, a recorded video of the lesson will be posted in Google Classroom by the end of the school day for your child to watch and complete the day’s lesson.

Students are expected to participate in class discussion through the video instruction.  They are encouraged to speak up and speak directly with the class or they may post a question or comment in the chat box during the Google Meet.

Students will receive feedback and guidance verbally during the live instruction of Google Meet and through posted instructions on the Google Classroom Site.  Due dates for assignments will always be posted with the assignment. Once an assignment is turned in and graded, feedback along with a grade will be communicated to the student. Grades will be posted in Infinite Campus.
