General Information


General Music is the study of music appreciation, theory, history, and performance. Subject matter will include:   playing on instruments, alone and with others, improvise melodies, compose and arrange music in a variety of ways, read and notate music, listen, analyze and describe music, evaluate music and musical performances, make connections between music, other arts and other subjects, understand music as it relates to history, and sing alone and with others, many different kinds of songs.

Expectations and Goals

All general music students will be expected to:

  • Respect each other, the teacher, the classroom, music and equipment
  • Positively participate in classroom activities
  • Be on time and prepared for class
  • Work to the best of your ability

  • Folder –pockets on the sides/prongs in the center
  • Paper
  • Pencil

Optional Materials

  • Kleenex is always needed.



6th Grade

Week One:  Beat, Meter                                      Week Six:  Notes and Rests, Writing Rhythms

Week Two:  Tempo, Rhythm                             Week Seven:  Writing a Song, Dynamics

Week Three:  Duration, Pitch                               Week Eight:  Articulation and Tempo,

Week Four:  Middle C and the Grand Staff                                 Chords and Harmony

Week Five:  Musical Alphabet, Lines and Spaces    Week Nine:  Form
