Parent/Guardian Attendance/Participation Information for 2020-2021
For the 2020-2021 school year, the Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) requires school districts to track participation for ALL students (both In-person and HCI/Online) for every school day and for every class period for middle and high schools.
ATTENDANCE = PARTICIPATION
The Kentucky Department of Education will run a district participation report from Infinite Campus and will report that data through the KDE website and to the Legislative Research Commission (October 2020, January 2021, and July 2021).
Attendance - In-Person Students:
Students who attend in-person classes will be considered “participating” by their physical presence in the classroom.
Attendance - Home Correspondence (HCI)/Online Students:
Daily participation for HCI students may be in real time during the school day or at times outside of normal school hours and include at least one of the following:
One-on-one video communication or phone calls between teacher and student (or teacher and parent with smaller children or students with special needs)
Group video communication or phone calls between the teacher and a whole class or between a teacher and smaller groups of students within a class
Student time logged into a learning management software system working to complete assignments
Submission of paper-based assignments for students in a non-digital setting
Assignments must be submitted the day the assignment is due at 11:59 pm or earlier to be counted as “participating” that day
Compulsory attendance laws remain in effect for the 2020-2021 school year. Non-participation days without valid excuse (parent/doctor note) are considered unexcused absences. Students who do not participate for three (3) days without a valid excuse are considered truant. Students who do not participate for six (6) days without a valid excuse are considered habitually truant. Please refer to the Student Code of Acceptable Conduct and Discipline for full attendance policies.
