Expectations

Google Meet Expectations

  1. Students will adhere to all district and school policies and guidelines while in a Google Meet. You may be learning from home for a season, but you're still a Jaguar wherever you are!
  2. Treat other students and your teacher with due respect. Any breaches in discipline will result in the proper referrals, and you may be banned from attending live class sessions. This is your time together as a class; help us use it productively.
  3. Be attentive; this is still class! I may randomly ask you to turn on a camera to prove you're awake, or you may be called upon at any time to answer a question.
  4. Please participate! Classes are boring without discussion, and you won't learn as much if you don't engage in the learning process. Take ownership of your education and speak up, ask questions, and respond to your classmates.
  5. Take notes as necessary or directed, just as you would in our regular classroom.

Student Information

  • Students are expected to be online daily during their regular class times. Classes will be live-streamed via Google Meet. Meet codes can be found in our Google Classroom. Students can interact with our in-class students through video, voice, and text chats in the Meet -- and are encouraged to do so! If you cannot be online during this time, you are expected to watch a recording of this class session. Recordings will be made available on Google Classroom no later than 3:30 of each school day.
  • Class attendance will be determined via participation in the live class on Google Meet or through submitted work in Google Classroom. Compulsory attendance laws remain in effect for the 2020-2021 school year. Non-participation days without a valid excuse (parent/doctor note) are considered unexcused absences. Students who do not participate for three (3) days without a valid excuse are considered truant. Students who do not participate for six (6) days without a valid excuse are considered habitually truant. Please refer to the Student Code of Acceptable Conduct and Discipline for full attendance policies.
  • Google Classroom will contain all HCI assignments and class videos as well as other important course information such as the syllabus, course policies, and similar information. Assignments will be posted daily, and students are expected to complete their assignments at the same pace as students in the physical classroom.
  • Students participating in HCI will receive feedback (including comments and grades) through Google Classroom, email, and student-teacher interaction during the Meet. Students are free to contact me during the Meet or by email or Classroom with any questions about assignments or course material.
  • All Google Classroom codes can be found in the course syllabus or obtained from me by phone or email. The syllabus with the codes will be emailed to your student email account prior to the first day of class. Check your student email often! Please note any attempts of unauthorized users to access the Classroom will result in the corresponding email address being removed and blocked.
  • Again: daily participation is expected! The live class Meet will begin ~2min. before the start of the class period so students can log in and be prepared to participate. Links to the Meet will be posted in Classroom. Students are expected to submit all work, including opening assignments, daily practice, the attendance form, and any other coursework on a daily basis. Failure to do so will result in being marked absent for the day.
  • All Google apps and your student email can be accessed with your Laurel County username and password.
