Special Announcement

The Kentucky Department of Education released the spring 2023 Kentucky Summative Assessment (KSA) and accountability results, and Laurel County is once again a high-performing district. The KSA was administered in the spring of 2023 in grades 3 through 8, 10, and 11.

The state student accountability system uses a color-coded rating to indicate student performance in schools at each level (elementary, middle, high), ranging from red (lowest performing) to blue (highest performing). This year, all of Laurel County Schools earned the blue or green (high and Highest performing) ratings—the highest two levels. Districts receive a separate color-coded rating for each level of schools, elementary, middle, and high.  Laurel County received the highest Blue rating at the elementary level and a high Green rating at both the middle and high school levels.

 Academic Performance/Assessment Results

The rated scores place Laurel County as the 2nd highest county school district in the state in the Overall Elementary rating, and 7th in all elementary district schools (top 4% out of 172 districts).  The district middle school rankings placed Laurel County as the 11th highest county school district, and 19th in all middle district schools (top 11% out of 172 districts), while Laurel County high schools landed 19th highest county school district, and 32nd in all high district schools (top 20% out of 168 districts).

The 2023 KSA scores are a direct reflection of the dedication, commitment to excellence, and sheer amount of just plain hard work put forth on a daily basis by our faculty, students, and staff.  There is certainly much to celebrate!  Regardless of our school’s current state rankings, hard work and due diligence are a must to maintain or improve test results. As always, we will continue in our commitment to provide the best possible education for the students of Laurel County.”
