Laurel County Public Schools is proud to announce the selection of Jessie Williams as the new Chief of Police for the Laurel County Schools Police Department. A distinguished veteran with a 20-year career in law enforcement, Chief Williams has a long history of serving the Laurel County community.
Chief Williams has held various roles within the Laurel County Schools Police Department, the London Police Department, the Laurel County Sheriff’s Department, and the Rockcastle County Sheriff's Department. His experience includes serving as a School Resource Officer (SRO) at Hunter Hills Elementary and, most recently, at North Laurel High School.
Beyond his work as an SRO, Chief Williams brings a wealth of specialized training to his new position. He has completed the Academy of Police Supervision and Rapid Response training. He is also a certified firearms instructor and instructor trainer, with a background in teaching law enforcement personnel in key areas such as:
Tactical command
Critical incident management
Threat/risk assessment
Hostage rescue
Special event planning
Recently, Chief Williams and the entire Laurel County Schools Police Department participated in a joint training exercise at London Elementary School, which included the London Police Department, the Laurel County Sheriff’s Department, and the London Fire Department. This collaborative training focused on critical incident response, ensuring all agencies are prepared to work together to protect our students and staff.
In his new role, Chief Williams will oversee the department's daily operations, which include 18 officers assigned to every school. The department will continue to coordinate with state, local, and federal law enforcement agencies to ensure the safety and security of all students and staff.
“I am humbled and grateful for this opportunity,” Chief Williams said. “I will commit my best effort to the students, staff, and our community. We are blessed to have some of the most dedicated, experienced, and highly trained law enforcement officers in the state working as our School Resource Officers. It will be an honor to serve with them.”
Laurel County Public Schools is excited to welcome Chief Williams to this new leadership position within our Laurel County School family.
