Header for Laurel County Public Schools ltr. head

Laurel County Public Schools prioritizes student safety and is committed to maintaining a safe learning environment for every student. We do not tolerate any form of violence, bullying, or harassment. These behaviors negatively impact students’ physical and mental well-being and disrupt the positive educational environment we strive to provide in all of our schools.

The administration of North Laurel High School, along with the Laurel County Schools Police Department, has concluded its investigation into a recent on-campus incident and the subsequent video that was inappropriately posted on social media. School administration and law enforcement have addressed this matter in accordance with the Laurel County Schools Student Code of Acceptable Conduct and Discipline and applicable policies and laws. The findings of the investigation have also been submitted to the Laurel County Attorney’s Office for review and consideration.

As a leader in school safety, our district is proud to have been among the first in Kentucky to implement a fully staffed police department with a full-time School Resource Officer in every school. Our commitment to safety includes annual independent safe school assessments conducted by the Kentucky Center for School Safety and the maintenance of comprehensive Emergency Management Plans developed collaboratively with local law enforcement and first responders.

Beyond physical security, we recognize the importance of student voices. Our Safe Schools Student Advisory Panel, comprised of student representatives from both middle and high schools, meets annually with the LCPS Chief of Police to address concerns directly. We also continue to provide the S.T.O.P. Tipline for anonymous reporting of bullying, weapons, or at-risk behaviors. Schools also maintain anonymous reporting options for those who wish to report concerns confidentially.

Laurel County Public Schools proudly serves more than 8,000 outstanding students. We remain committed to listening, learning, and continuously improving our efforts to ensure that every school remains a safe place where students can learn, grow, and succeed. The safety of our students will always remain our highest priority.
