Our Eagles had a fantastic Friday cheering on the kindergarteners (and even some staff!) in the first annual Johnson Derby. Students all over the building had a blast taking part in activities such as creating hats, designing silks, learning to play the Call to Post on classroom instruments and with voice, eating a delicious Derby Day breakfast, and enjoying pie and mint punch.

During Mrs. Hodge's art class, second and third grade students had a blast preparing these perspective projects based on their favorite scene from the book The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane. This was a multiple session culminating project that was tied in to the school's One School One Book initiative.

Kindergarten and first grade students in Mrs. Hodge's art class jumped into spring by creating their very own Van Gogh inspired vases of flowers. Students designed their own tables and backgrounds on which to place the flowers. The flowers and vases were made by cutting various shapes from premade 'painted' papers in different color schemes and then gluing them onto the background.

Mrs. Ledington's class has had a great time learning about angles. Students designed their own zoo layouts by measuring and sketching angles using protractors. They placed their enclosures at specific angle measures to practice how to measure and draw angles in whole-number degrees. This activity aligns with KY.4.MD.6 by helping students apply protractor skills in a creative, real-world context.

Because of our recent missed days, THE CANDY CONTEST IS EXTENDED THROUGH MONDAY, MARCH 23rd. Please consider sending bags of soft candy (no nuts or peanut butter) for the Laurel Heights Easter egg hunt. The class with the most candy donated will get a prize! This is an event that Johnson is proud to have supported for several years now, and we love that filling eggs for the residents allows our Eagles to learn about the importance of serving others. 🐣 Thank you so much to those families who have already donated! 🐣
