Mr. Karr, providing construction explanation and showing students where to run wires out of the box to make electrical connections to the Principles of Electrical Technology class of students at CFI.

Students in the Industrial Maintenance Technology (IMT) program at the Laurel County Schools Center for Innovation (CFI) are learning to install electrical device boxes for residential and commercial applications. Mr. Gary Karr, IMT Instructor/Program Coordinator, explains how to install 22mm pushbuttons and associated contacts into a device box as they are building their new trainers for this year. The installation involves three parts and should be done in a specific order to be correct, so it requires precision and attention to detail before students work at individual stations.

It's part of a series of work that includes the students working with Mr. Danny Stamper, Technical Lab Assistant to

  • build frames for the trainers;
  • installing DIN rails and terminal blocks;
  • assembling boxes with buttons for controls;
  • installing contactors, relays, three-phase motors, and other devices on the trainers;
  • and finishing the new trainers by installing some connective wiring (for the button stations and motors).
